Girls Football

Junior Football for Girls

The Clyde Cougars Junior Football Club are proud supporters of the Women & Girls Community Football Charter, a commitment made by Community Football Leagues, Clubs & Umpire Groups to work towards making Community Football environments welcoming, safe and inclusive for Women & Girls.

At CCJFC, we believe that integrating Women and Girl’s football into the club needs to be structured and deliberate.  As the club continues to grow, we endeavor to create a plan which ensures true equality for Women and Girls in Football in all areas.  Some initiatives we are undertaking to ensure this are:

  • Playing Home Games on the Main Oval
  • Providing girls only change rooms for training and match days
  • Re-writing the Constitution with gender neutral pronouns
  • Appointing a minimum of three women on the Club Executive Committee
  • Appointing a Director of Girls Football
  • Engaging a girls football coach with experience in coaching women’s football
  • Establishing Budget and Resource Equality
  • Celebrating and acknowledging the participation and achievements of women and girls in our club
  • Cultivating a strong pathway for young girls in our community
  • and growing our partnership with the Clyde Cougars Senior Football & Netball Club.

In a sport that is still a male dominated industry, we are striving to provide a safe and empowering space where young girls feel connected, empowered, safe and understood.

Clyde Cougars Junior Football Club established our first girls teams in 2024. Our under 12 girls then went on to become our first ever girls team to make the preliminary finals in 2024.

Many girls prefer to play Australian Football in single gender environments, and where possible we recommend girls over age 10 do so. However, should your daughter prefer to play in mixed-gender team or competition they are permitted to do so until age 14.
